At the last meeting of Kilkenny Allotments and Community Gardens Association it was decided to take a field trip to view allotments at Clonmel and Cashel (Aimisir Bia), to talk to allotment holders and see how the allotments are working out. Future Proof Kilkenny member Oonagh Duggan has made contact with organisers at both towns about a potential visit and the trip is going to happen sooner rather than later so that there will be a greater the chance of still seeing some vegetables growing!

Soldiers of Peace
Tuesday 22nd September, 8:30pm, Billy Byrnes Pub, John Street, Kilkenny, 8€
The first event of the World March for Peace group’s Autumn program is a screening of the uplifting Soldiers of Peace movie on tuesday next.
The pictures pile up, and with them some solid assumptions. We assume that war is human nature. That there’s an epidemic of war and it’s only getting worse. That it’s too profitable for some businesses to be stopped. And too effective for some governments to give up. That war will be with us forever.
Away from the cameras, ordinary people everywhere are taking amazing steps to force peace out of trouble and violence. The film follows 14 stories from around the world with the good news that peace is breaking out.
Who Killed the Electric Car?

Running solely on electricity, General Motors fleet of EV-1 electric vehicles were so efficient, they were on the brink of altering the future of driving in America – perhaps even the world. Those lucky enough to drive one gave it glowing reviews. So why were they all destroyed?
Who Killed the Electric Car? is a murder mystery like no other, as it unravels the puzzling demise of a vehicle that could have saved the environment and America’s dangerous addiction to foreign oil.
Our local currency group has been working hard over the last two months running workshops and seminars including a slot at the Electric Picnic called The Money Clinic in Cultivate’s Rethink Tank. On Thursday last we made a formal presentation to the board of the Chamber of Commerce on what alternative exchange systems are all about. The presentation was a general overview of paper currencies, LETs systems, credit clearing organisations and the electronic Liquidity Network proposals. The ideas were well received and the CEO of the Chamber, Alison Mc Grath, will hopefully get agreement from the incoming board to put it on the agenda for the months ahead.
It was a timely presentation for just this week a local currency has been launched in Brixton. Transition Brixton have put an excellent video on line which explains brilliantly what paper currencies are all about. Well worth watching.
If you wish to become involved in the local currency group contact brian[at[click2go[dot]ie or come along to our next meeting Tuesday next, 7pm in Billy Byrnes pub.
