Future Proof Kilkenny

We are delighted to announce our third season of films and documentary screenings examining the global issues of sustainability, justice, equality and the environment.

Courtesy of the Mayor this year the screenings take place in the historic Tholsel building on High street. You read that right. This year the Green Screen is happening in the Town Hall. What better place to get to grips with the big issues of our time.

The program kicks off on Thursday 5th November with the fabulous King Corn and continues every second week till Christmas. See the full program below. Admission is free of charge but a contribution is appreciated to cover our costs.

You can download the full program here.

“As Kilkenny celebrates 400 years of city status, I believe that it is fitting that the centre of local democracy since 1736, the Tholsel be used as a forum for debate on the next 400 years and beyond. As Mayor in this historic year I am delighted to be hosting this thought provoking series of films in this special venue. I would like to thank my colleagues and staff of Kilkenny Borough Council and Future Proof Kilkenny for putting the programme together” – Mayor Malcolm Noonan

King Corn

Thursday 5th November, 8pm

With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified seeds and powerful herbicides two best friends from college move to Iowa to grow corn on just 1 acre of soil and then follow it on its journey to the dinner plate. King Corn is enormously entertaining, unexpectedly moving, earnest and open-minded, and more than a little bit tragic.

Blurring the boundaries between sci-fi and documentary, Franny Ar\mstrong’s The Age of Stupid stars Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055 lamenting our inaction as he watches actual footage from 2008. Intelligent and restrained the film exposes the huge contradictions and uncertainties of our time through six human stories.
