The Brixton pound launched this week in the UK under the slogan "Sticking with Brixton"

Our local currency group has been working hard over the last two months running workshops and seminars including a slot at the Electric Picnic called The Money Clinic in Cultivate’s Rethink Tank. On Thursday last we made a formal presentation to the board of the Chamber of Commerce on what alternative exchange systems are all about. The presentation was a general overview of paper currencies, LETs systems, credit clearing organisations and the electronic Liquidity Network proposals. The ideas were well received and the CEO of the Chamber, Alison Mc Grath, will hopefully get agreement from the incoming board to put it on the agenda for the months ahead.

It was a timely presentation for just this week a local currency has been launched in Brixton. Transition Brixton have put an excellent video on line which explains brilliantly what paper currencies are all about. Well worth watching.
