***POSTPONED UNTIL THE NEW YEAR***
In cooperation with the emerging Transition Town Thomastown group, Future Proof Kilkenny will show two films on Peak Oil at the Watergarden in December. Each screening will be followed by a workshop/discussion examining how Peak Oil will impact our way of life and what we can do locally to prepare for this geological certainty.
A Crude Awakening
Thursday 11th December, Watergarden, 8pm, 5E
“we’re running out and we don’t have a plan”
An unforgettable and shocking wake up call, A Crude Awakening offers the rock-solid argument that the era of cheap oil is in the past. Relentless and clear-eyed, this intensively researched film drills deep into the uncomfortable realities of a world that is both addicted to fossil fuels and blissfully unaware of the looming “peak oil” crisis.
Power of Community
Thursday 18th December, Watergarden, 8pm, 5E
“inspiring solutions from Cuba”
When Cuba lost access to Soviet oil in the early 1990s, the country faced an immediate crisis – feeding the population. Within a few years Cuba transitioned from large, fossil fuel intensive farming to small organic farms and urban gardens. To this day over 50% of the food consumed within the capital city is grown within the city limits.
