After the usual summer recess, Future Proof Kilkennys’ Green Screen returns to The Hole in the Wall bringing movies with imporant and usually entertaining messages to Kilkenny. Through Oct/Dec we’ll be showing 4 movies each with a different theme, Fracking, Food, Forestry and Family.
The Green Screen sees no shortage of relevant, thought provoking films that are being produced throughout the world today. We are delighted to begin Season 6 with a movie about an issue that has recently become the hottest topic in the world of environmental/energy responsibility.
GASLAND follows filmmaker Josh Fox, who is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND.
Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a means of natural gas extraction employed in deep natural gas well drilling. Read more on Gasland website
But Fracking has also become a sensitive issue in Ireland, where in one case ‘a new gas-extraction method known as ‘fracking’ could open up huge energy deposits in the Lough Allen basin. But, with not a hole drilled, disagreements over its environmental effects have already begun. Read more in this Irish Times article
